This novel is one of three works by Clement which were first serialized in Astounding Science Fiction magazine [Needle (1950), Iceworld (1953) and Mission of Gravity (1954)]. Three sequels to Mission of Gravity were published, a novel titled Star Light (1970), a short story in 1973 called ""Lecture Demonstration"" and a short story in 2000 titled ""Under."" Hal Clement was inducted into the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame in 1998. This novel was nominated for a ""Retro-Hugo"" Award in 1954.
