Un-paginated (95 pp.) First edition, first printing of the uncommon hardcover edition arranged for the stage by Forbes Robertson (Sir Johnston) and presented at the Lyceum Theatre (London) on Saturday September 11, 1897. Three illustrations by Hawes Craven alongside two photographic plates. Legendary Victorian actor and impresario, Sir Johnston Forbes Robertson's production of Hamlet is regarded as the finest production (and performance) of Hamlet in the Victorian Era, essentially locking-in Forbes Robertson as the finest actor of his day. He would go on to also play Hamlet in the 1913 silent film. This edition however is specific to the stage adaptation as performed at the Lyceum in the fall of 1897. As for the book, plain boards are bound in green cloth; stamped in red on front board. Book is tight. Binding and hinges are sound. A touch of separation at edges of front internal hinge however this does not affect binding or hinges as cloth outer cover binding is sturdy and snug. Boards/binding show shelf-rubbing along edges with minor soiling. Scant, light foxing within. A desirable, uncommon edition of the finest tragedy written in the English language. VG.
