Blue cloth cover, near fine. The first issue is very rare and sought after. First edition, first state. Clark & Brunet 30: 1961: Blue cloth with blue foil stamping on spine and rules, top edge stain. First edition stated on copyright page, 209 printed. This true first printing omits the last three paragraphs on page 376 regarding Lee s reinstatement to membership in the Mormon Church. These paragraphs are included in all other printings. The omission of these paragraphs was requested by the LDS church. Mattes 305. Guns 286. An Americana Century 35. The first edition was not offered for sale and copies were given to descendants of John D. Lee as well as to friends of the publisher and author. This copy is inscribed by Ellie Lee, perhaps a descendant of John D. Lee. Ora Pate Stewart was a Mormon poetess.
