"This book is about the human need for attachment: to be truly seen, touched, felt, sensed, nourished, valued, celebrated, and loved to the very core of one's being, beyond mere appearances.
Included in the book are two versions of the same theme: the search for the true self.
The first version, "A Woman's Reflection", is an essay addressed to adult women.
The second, "The Enchanted Mirror", is a child's fairy tale with Serena, the child protagonist setting forth on a metaphorical, fantasy journey.
Though Serena is a child, she is really an ageless, timeless soul in search of its truth and beauty.
In my own journey to find myself, and in my work with others over the past twenty years - a central theme has always been the longing for that integrated, meaningful image of the True Self.
As a psychotherapist, I have had the honor of actually being the mirror which contained all the pieces of he shattered soul.
When our therapeutic work was completed, the new reflection was internalized by the patient and the inner mirror was now in place for future self-perception and understanding.
My intention as author and illustrator is to present this book as a mirror.
I hope that its reflection will provide a new way of looking at the self, enhancing both the relationship with the reader's inner self and communication between mothers, daughters, sisters, loved ones and friends.
I hope this book will be passed on to the grown child to whom it was once read, who will then be able to read both versions and pass it on to her own children and friends; and that it will contribute in a small, but hopefully significant, way to the self-esteem and self-love of all who read it.
