(London: John Lehmann 1950).
First UK Edition, First Impression of the Author's First Book without its dustwrapper.
Publisher's original pink tweed cloth, backstrip blocked in brown and lettered in gilt.
THE AUTHOR'S OWN COPY SHOWING HER VERY EXTENSIVE REVISIONS IN HER HAND for the Penguin edition of 1955 as confirmed in a post-it note by Jill Norman (Elizabeth David's Editor at Penguin and Literary Executor) to the front free end-paper.
There are copious revisions in fountain pen and pencil to almost every page, including the text of a few new recipes (Peanut Soup and Cephalonian Hare) which are pinned to the relevant page.
The Post-It note in Jill Norman's hand says: "revised copy for the Penguin edition & new preface, new recipes some notes added".
A nice VG+ copy with clean boards, clean interior, no inscriptions.
Unique with these attributes.
