Walter White (1893-1955) was a writer and activist that headed the NAACP for 25 years from 1929-1955.
He was of mixed race and light-skinned and passed for white while investigating lynchings and race riots in the South.
He would help lead many legal challenges to segregation and disfranchisement and distance the NAACP from the Communist Party.
