WITH SIGNED envelope commemorating the first winter ascent of Everest 17 February 1980. This envelope is signed by Andrzej Zawada (team leader and main pioneer of high altitude winter climbing), and the two summiters, Leszek Cichy and Krzysztof Wielicki. It has an expedition cachet, Nepal Everest postage stamp canceled in Kathmandu 17 March 1980. The envelope is in near fine condition. The book measures 224mm tall x 224mm, and has 143 pages, 148 color & 2 b/w photos, 13 topo maps + 2 EP maps. Text in english. Only 500 copies of the first printing in english were produced. This is one of them. There is an identical 1999? reprint with the only distinguishing difference being that the reprint has glossy paper EPs where the first has regular paper EPs. Mainly pictorial account of author's ascents of the 14 highest mountains in the world. Most of these climbs were firsts being either new routes, solos, winter ascents, etc. He made the FIRST winter ascents of Everest, Lhotse, & Kangchenjunga -- and just 20 days after climbing K2 via the N Ridge he made a 1-day roundtrip solo ascent of Nanga Parbat's Diamir Face.
