Description

Featuring an informative personal annotation from the author and a signed note, this is the scarce limited edition of Winifred Carmer Marburg's illustrated account of her travels around the world. A scarce first edition, one of only 210 copies produced. With a loosely inserted signed note from the author, dated 1956, reading 'Dear Hede, I should like to mark this day - with not only my good wishes for you but with deep affection for your friendship'.Marburg has supplied a handwritten annotation to page 175, in response to her printed statements about the problems faced by Germany in the 1930s and her assessment that 'surely, the rest of the world should not interfere, even in the ruthless manner in which the Jewish question has been handled'.Her annotation, written at a later date, clarifies 'had I known and seen more of ""hidden"" atrocities my remarks would have been different - except - that us in America learn from this example and keep our own civil liberties - freedom for each & all'.Illustrated with full page lino-cuts from the author - an artist - in blue ink. She narrates her global travels in this work. In the publisher's original quarter cloth binding, with paper covered boards. Small losses of cloth to back strip head and tail, with rear joint starting but board firmly held. Light spotting to board perimeters, with light tide mark to tail of front board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright. Author's annotation to page 175. Very Good
