First edition. Very scarce work. Signed by the author to the title page. A fantastic account of the life and adventures of Estonian-Canadian explorer, August Masik. Hutchison details Masik's varied history, including his time as a gold-digger, sailor, explorer and trader. Written by Isobel Wylie Hutchison, a botanist and explorer who spent the best part of 1933-34 sailing around the Alaskan coast, during which she visited Masik. Illustrated with eight plates and a colour frontispiece. Collated, complete. Bound in the publisher's cloth. Externally, very smart, with rubbing to the extremities, a little fading to the spine and a few marks to cloth. Ink inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with just the odd spot or handling mark. Very Good
